A Village Needed For Sweet Bubba - GOAL MET!!!

Some of you may know Bubba by his former name, Dutch. This honeysweet little guy has gone through so much! Bubba was abandoned in the streets and had a broken left rear leg that was left untreated for months. We raised $710 last year for his neuter and to insert a pin in his leg. The pin was adjusted as it was pressing against his sciatic nerve and eventually had to be removed ahead of schedule due to the pain. Although his bone has healed, he has suffered damage to his sciatic nerve; and he has chewed his toes nearly down to the bone. The best option now to save him from his pain and discomfort would be an amputation of the leg. Bubba's young (a year or so old), very agile and has a great disposition so he's an excellent candidate for an amputation. Plus, he's already not using the leg so his compensation for the loss is already in progress.

The estimate for the surgery is $1500-$1800 which includes a courtesy extraction of a canine tooth with exposed pulp. We don't know how he's been so sweet and affectionate despite all his pain!

I know times are rough but we just had to give Bubba a well-deserved chance and fundraise for this final surgery to resolve all of this little pumpkin's pain. Once he's recovered, this compact 42lb tripod will be available for adoption. He is good with other dogs (wants to play with the resident female BT), great with children but is not cat-safe. He is very sweet and extremely affectionate.

Bubba has a recovery spot lined up but a home where he'll be fostered with the possibility of adoption would be ideal!

Please donate if you can - no amount is too small. We thank you for any support! Your donation will be returned if our goal is not met.

3/1 Update: Thanks to St. Malo, Azteca, Craig & Angie, Rue W., Krystell G., Mark C., Kelly M. KG & Memo, Andi C., Roma A. Barb & Pete F., Dorey & Willy, Judy N. & Kobi, John & Alex, and Anna S., $1845 has been pledged/raised - we have met our goal! Words cannot express the depth of my gratitude for the emotional and financial support received for this wiggly boy. Rest assured that I will hug the stuffing out of each one of you when we meet!!!

I've been in touch with a down-to-earth vet acupuncturist who has suggested some self-diagnostics before acupuncture and amputation should be considered. We'll run through some exercises and are keeping our paws crossed for the best! Please stay tuned for updates. I'm truly honored to be a part of such a caring and wonderful bully community!

I don't think you should amputate his leg!

We won't unless it's the best option for him. Consultations (including acupuncture) are ongoing and we're still shopping around on the costs.

Dogs are so versatile and if it's in the best interest for his quality of life, I think the poor little guy would be grateful to be rid of such a painful burden.

You do such great work at the BTR!

Thanks Suz!!

I agree with Martine. It is about the overall quality of life, if amputation will save him from pain and potential for infection later on, that is best. Dogs are such resilient animals. Good luck Suz!

Oh gosh...this is so sad.
But I also agree, since these dogs are so strong they can do well on 3 legs, if that's the only option to be pain free. It seems like he's suffered enough pain in his young life.

I know you always do ALL you can for the best interest of the bullies Suzi! I'll add-on an extra prayer to St.Francis to get whatever help you need for Dutch/Bubba.

In the meantime, I know where all our recyclable can and bottle money is going :-)
We'll look into Kiska's bully/ piggy-bank too.

blessings,

I have an update from the veterinarian accupuncturist. The prognosis is good. Bubba has feeling in the nerves on the back and bottom of his foot. Just not on the top (knuckle) side. He has started accupuncture thearpy. He has a new collar to break his fixation on his foot and Dr. Brewer is working on an herbal treatment. He has weekly appoinments for this therapy lined up.

Bubba has lot of love to give a family or new home. Thanks to all who pledged to help. We are excited to see if someone who loves or wants to love a bully will get to know Bubba with our help and let him make a perfect adition to the right new home.

YAYYY!

Thank you for the most wonderful update!

It's been a long haul but we all wanted to do the best for Bubba and save his leg if we could. Thank you, FDE, for all your time and efforts to help Bubba regain usage of his leg. Paws crossed that enough nerves can be regenerated via acupuncture and herbs!

Bubba has a wonderful village caring for him and I'm so grateful to everyone!
